Environmental Policy
We recognise our Company has an impact on the environment. Our aim for 2009 is to still identify those activities, products etc that have an impact and actively establish effective measures to minimise waste, energy usage and implement recycling, purchasing & monitoring policies. This in turn will lead to efficient use of water and energy and improve cost control.
In 2009 we had the Hen House Restaurant Energy Performance Asset Rated, it came out at 54 - that is a C rating. Not bad for a converted silage pit!
It is essential that we raise awareness, encourage participation and train employees in environmental issues and the direct environmental effects of their activities.
The Directors and staff are working towards making this happen and be part of the Green Tourism Business Scheme. We expect similar environmental standards from all suppliers and contractors. We have found it is important to maintain good public/community relations, liaising with the local community.
We are already working with two bus companies to promote public transport and the stop outside our site. Our sewage treatment plant returns treated water to the river, (monitored to prevent pollution) and our cardboard/plastic crusher is kept very busy.

Long Term Aims
• committed to continuously seek to improve environmental performance(raw materials, product, energy, water, packaging, effluent etc)
• assist customers to use products and services in an environmentally-sensitive way
• avoid incidents that result in liability
• discuss & share environmental solutions with local businesses (also discount schemes)
• monitoring of progress and review of environmental performance on a regular basis (usually annually) resulting in resources used even more efficiently
• use biodegradable chemicals, timber from sustainable (managed) forests
Review and update annually or if the business activities or operations change significantly.
Energy Efficiency
We are on target to use less electricity in two of the 4 departments this year.
Local School Partnership
This year we set ourselves a target to help the Yarrells school collect as many empty 2ltr bottles as possible to assist them with their Eco-Summit goals and to build the greenhouse you see in the picture here. It has worked really well and there are lots of plants growing very happily.
Thanks to one local season ticket holder who brought in a large bag of bottles to us.
