The best children’s birthday party in Dorset
A full day of farm adventures, food, cake and memories — without the party-planning panic
Birthdays are brilliant. The cake. The presents. The games. The decorations. The excited children. The cake again.
Planning the perfect children’s birthday party, however, can sometimes feel like a full-time job.
There is the guest list, the food, the dietary requirements, the invitations, the cake, the party bags, the entertainment and the constant question:
Will everyone actually enjoy themselves?
And when the last child goes home, quite often the person who organised the whole thing is left surrounded by wrapping paper and crumbs wondering whether it really needs to happen again next year!
We think children’s birthday parties can be different.
At Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park in Dorset, a birthday party is not squeezed into a frantic hour or two.
It is a whole day of adventure
More than a party – its a full day out with friends
Many children’s party experiences are built around a fixed activity session followed by food before it is time to go home.
At Farmer Palmer’s, your party children can enjoy the Farm Park for the whole day.
That means friends and family can arrive, settle in and enjoy their time together without feeling that the clock is constantly ticking.
The children can explore indoor and outdoor play, enjoy the day’s animal activities, burn off some birthday excitement and share a tractor-trailer ride before or after their booked party meal.
Your private party room is reserved for approximately one hour for the birthday meal and celebrations — but the Farm Park fun lasts all day. (farmerpalmers.co.uk)
And for younger children, we think that makes a real difference.
- There is time to play.
- Time to stop for lunch.
- Time to explore.
- Time to meet the animals.
And time for the grown-ups to actually enjoy watching it all happen.
What is included in a Farmer Palmer’s birthday party?
We have tried to remove as much of the organising from parents as possible.
Your party package currently includes:
- full-day entry to Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park;
- access to the normal daily timetable of animal activities and play;
- a tractor-trailer ride;
- a private party room for approximately one hour;
- a choice of hot or cold children’s party food;
- Whippy ice cream dessert;
- a presentation birthday cake with candles;
- party bags;
- and a free printable invitation template on request.
Current annual pass holders also receive one free party child place, and the package includes adult admissions according to the current party terms. (farmerpalmers.co.uk)
That means you do not have to spend the evening before the party making sandwiches, stuffing party bags and trying to create a three-tier farm animal cake at midnight.
Unless, of course, you particularly enjoy doing that. In which case, we admire you enormously
Proper party food — and yes, there is cake
When it is time to eat, the children head to their farm-themed party room.
Parents can choose the party food option when booking, with current choices including a cold picnic-style option or a hot meal choice.
The children also enjoy a Whippy ice cream dessert, followed by the all-important moment: candles, singing and birthday cake.
The current package provides a presentation cake, although families are welcome to bring their own cake too. (farmerpalmers.co.uk)
Because however many animals you meet or slides you whizz down, we all know birthdays have certain important traditions.
Cake is one of them.
Party bags that actually feel special
Then there are the party bags.
We wanted these to feel like part of the experience rather than simply another handful of little plastic toys that disappear under the back seat of the car.
The current Farmer Palmer’s party bags include a child return visit voucher, a cuddly TY plush toy, homemade birthday cake and stickers. (farmerpalmers.co.uk)
It means the children leave with something cuddly, something tasty and, rather wonderfully, a reason to come back and make another Farmer Palmer’s memory.
Why does a full-day birthday party matter?
We know young children do not always perform to a party timetable.
Sometimes someone needs a snack.
Someone needs the toilet.
Someone desperately wants to go down the slide seventeen more times.
Someone has just discovered the animals and absolutely does not want to leave yet.
A full-day birthday party gives families breathing room.
Instead of rushing from one tightly timed part of the party to another, children can spend the day exploring and playing at their own pace.
The current Farmer Palmer’s package combines the party itself with a full Farm Park visit rather than limiting the experience to the meal and one short activity slot. (farmerpalmers.co.uk)
For us, that is one of the biggest reasons why a birthday at the Farm Park is such good value.
You are not simply booking a room for cake.
You are giving your child a day out with their favourite people
Built with younger children in mind
Farmer Palmer’s is particularly designed for younger children and currently promotes its birthday parties for ages 1–8.
There is a mixture of indoor and outdoor play, animal experiences and activities, which also means the birthday adventure is not dependent on perfect Dorset weather. (farmerpalmers.co.uk)
The birthday child can be:
- a little farmer;
- an animal lover;
- a tractor enthusiast;
- a climber;
- a slider;
- an explorer;
- or all of the above before lunchtime.
That variety also helps when a group of children has different personalities and interests.
A party the parents can enjoy too
This may be the bit we care about most.
Birthdays matter to parents just as much as they matter to children.
You want to see their face when everyone sings Happy Birthday.
You want photographs of them laughing with their friends.
You want to watch them proudly showing Granny where the animals are.
You do not want to spend the whole celebration disappearing into a kitchen to find more paper plates.
At a Farmer Palmer’s birthday party, our team helps take care of the organised parts of the day so that you can concentrate on the reason everyone is there:
your child.
Years from now, they probably will not remember whether the napkins matched the balloons.
But they may remember the day they spent running around the farm with their friends, meeting the animals, riding on the tractor and blowing out their birthday candles.
And we think that is what makes a really good birthday party.
